Widespread damage as tornado moves through Mississippi ROLLING FORK, Miss. (AP) — A tornado tore through a rural area of the Mississippi Delta Friday night, causing injuries, widespread damage and downing power lines as severe weather that produced hail the size of golf balls moved through several southern states.The National Weather Service in Jackson confirmed a tornado caused damage about 60 miles (96 kilometers) northeast of Jackson. The towns of Silver City and Rolling Fork were reporting destruction as the tornado continued moving just before 9 p.m. into the northwest side of Tchula and along Highway 49.The current Rolling Fork mayor, Eldridge Walker, told WLBT-TV he was unable to get out of his damaged home soon after the tornado hit the town because power lines were down. Crews battle large fire involving multiple homes in Scituate Officials said at least five homes were involved in a large fire that burned in Scituate Friday night.Many of the flames had been knocked down as of around 9:30 p.m. Still, heavy smoke remained as firefighters from multiple area communities continued to work on scene on Glades Road near Minot Beach. In an update at the scene, fire officials said they first received a call about the fire shortly before 8 p.m. Officials said crews soon arrived to find three buildings already in flames. Officials described efforts to contain the fire as wind whipped through the area. Still, fire eventually spread to two additional homes.
