County Attorney: Spike in DPS arrests contributes to backlog as prosecutors focus on more nonviolent cases AUSTIN (KXAN) — An email from the Travis County Attorney to city staff about concerns with the DPS partnership in Austin led KXAN to discover her courts have had to process nearly triple the amount of misdemeanor arrests from the agency that it did last year. County Attorney Delia Garza sent the email in June, days before troopers were set to resume their beefed up Austin patrols following a hiatus when more resources were needed on the border. KXAN obtained the email as part of a public information request about DPS' patrols in Austin.In that email, Garza addressed stretched resources in her court system, as well as a backlog. "With an increase in arrests that are low level, nonviolent types of arrests, it pulls our prosecutors away from doing work on more violent types of crimes," Garza said in a sit-down interview with KXAN last week. Manor PD looking for person of interest in mail theft MANOR, Texas (KXAN) – Manor police said Wednesday they were looking for a woman they said was a person of interest in an alleged mail theft from early September. According to the Manor Police Department, the alleged theft happened in the 11900 block of Bastrop Street around 4:16 p.m. on Sept. 7. That is just west of FM 973. Manor PD said the woman had a tattoo on her right shoulder and appeared to have an ankle monitor on her left ankle. She was driving what looks to be an older gray Honda Civic, police said. New Jersey hiker airlifted in Essex County with injury KEENE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A hiker from New Jersey was airlifted on Mount Marcy after sustaining a leg injury half a mile from the summit. According to the DEC, on Wednesday, September 20, around 2:35 p.m., Forest Rangers were alerted of a 53-year-old New Jersey hiker with an unstable leg injury on Mount Marcy. The hiker was roughly half a mile from the summit, just below the tree line. New York State Police Aviation was called to assist. Personnel responded, and a ranger was lowered from the chopper to help the hiker into a harness. Vermonter charged with child-aggravated sexual assault Once secured, the hiker was hoisted back into the helicopter. The ranger hiked back with the injured hiker's partner and reached the trailhead by 6:44 p.m.
