Man accused of shooting driver in the head on Bay Area freeway sentenced

A Vallejo man accused of shooting another driver in the head while on a freeway in 2020 will spend less than two years in prison following a court ruling Tuesday.Davon Howes Judge Robert Bowers sentenced 30-year-old Davon Howes to eight years and four months in prison after Howes entered “no contest” pleas for charges related to the attack.Prior to his sentencing, however, Howes had already spent three and a half years in jail since his arrest on March 26, 2020. California law stipulates that double that amount of time be subtracted from his sentence. So, attorneys said in court, Howes will receive seven years’ credit and will only be in prison for a year and four months. The shooting victim told authorities in 2020 that he had prior conflicts with Howes when Howes spotted him leaving a fast food restaurant on Admiral Callaghan Lane. Howes’ vehicle reportedly followed the victim onto the freeway – where, police said, it reportedly pulled up alongside the other car and Howes poin...Firefighters knock down blaze at Antioch grow house

The Canadian government says it is urgently trying to end the forced sterilization of Indigenous women, describing the practice as a human rights violation and a prosecutable offense. Yet police say they will not pursue a criminal investigation into a recent case in which a doctor apologized for his “unprofessional conduct” in sterilizing an Inuit woman. In July, The Associated Press reported on the case of an Inuit woman in Yellowknife who had surgery in 2019 aimed at relieving her abdominal pain. The obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Andrew Kotaska, did not have the woman’s consent to sterilize her, and he did so over the objections of other medical personnel in the operating room. She is now suing him.“This is a pivotal case for Canada because it shows that forced sterilization is still happening,” said Dr. Unjali Malhotra, of the First Nations Health Authority in British Columbia. “It’s time that it be treated as a crime.”Kotaska declined to comment to the AP. PARIS (AP) — World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin defended the bunker review system at the Rugby World Cup after a red card was not issued for Tonga winger Afusipa Taumoepeau’s hit on Scotland captain Jamie Ritchie last weekend.Taumoepeau was given a yellow card for the first half incident last Sunday, but it wasn’t upgraded to red apparently because of Ritchie’s slight duck into the tackle. The captain subsequently failed a head injury assessment, which means a mandatory 12-day rest. Many observers thought the upright hit merited a clear red card and the bunker review — where officials have eight minutes to change their initial decision — should clearly have seen that. But Gilpin said mitigation, such as the height of the tackle, comes into it and defended the system.“The foul play review officer in the bunker is obviously seeing more angles than television viewers at home or people in the stadium are seeing, and we think there is great consistency there and the bunker is working...Medida busca que tiendas de armas en Montgomery ofrezcan información sobre prevención del suicidio
