More than 60 years ago, it was known as the Red Griffin, a smokey speakeasy in the basement of Santa Monica’s grand dame hotel, The Georgian. It has been painstakingly restored as the Georgian Room, sustaining all the same mystique, minus the smoke.The hotel was built in 1931 and the underground hideaway first opened its doors in 1933 during the prohibition era and Hollywood’s Golden Age, attracting the likes of Carole Lombard, Clark Gable, Bugsy Siegel and Marilyn Monroe.The entrance is hidden away on the side of the legendary hotel, which has seen good and bad times, once serving as the home of Kennedy matriarch Rose during the ‘60s. (KRON) -- An aggressive dog got loose in Petaluma on Tuesday, briefly causing a neighborhood to shelter in place. The dog bit a citizen, causing them to be hospitalized with moderate injuries, according to the Petaluma Police Department. Officers were called to the scene on the 1200 block of San Rafael Drive at about 3:25 p.m. Person fatally overdoses on BART train Two PPD officers arrived, and the dog charged them as soon as they got out of their cars, police said. Both officers deployed their tasers, and the dog retreated. More officers arrived, and they contained the dog until its owner arrived. Due to the animal's behavior, a shelter-in-place was ordered until it was secured. Authorities did not specify what breed the dog is. (BCN) -- Two unions that represent nearly 4,500 San Jose city employees began voting Tuesday on whether to authorize a three-day strike over what the unions say are chronic understaffing issues and low pay for city workers. The unions will be collecting ballots through Friday and plan to announce the results at an event in San Jose on Monday. The unions, the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers Local 21 and the Municipal Employees' Federation-American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 101, represent thousands of workers in the city, including emergency dispatch, code enforcement, librarians, airport staff and engineers. (KRON) -- A person was found dead of an apparent overdose on a BART train on Monday night, according to BART. Fare inspectors conducting a train inspection just after 9:30 p.m. found the man unresponsive. An officer administered a dose of Narcan, but he was pronounced dead on the train. Giants fans going to the East Bay after watching the team's extra-innings loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks were forced to wait for the situation to be resolved. There is no foul play suspected, but police are investigating the death. Narcan was also administered at the Milpitas BART station on Sunday morning. At about 11:24 a.m., crisis intervention specialists gave two doses of Narcan to a female who appeared to be overdosing on a train. AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State quarterback Hunter Dekkers has been accused of gambling on Cyclones sports events, including a football game, and was charged Tuesday with tampering with records related to an Iowa Criminal Division investigation into sports gambling. The criminal complaint said Dekkers placed 366 online bets worth more than $2,799. According to documents, those bets included 26 Iowa State athletic events and a 2021 football game with Oklahoma State when Dekkers was a backup. He did not play in the game. The Des Moines Register was first to report the charge against Dekkers. There were three other current or former Iowa State athletes facing the same charge, according to Iowa state online court records.
