ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - A male bald eagle at the World Bird Sanctuary that went viral for trying to "hatch" a rock has been introduced to an eaglet at the facility, with hopes his parental instincts will transfer to the fledgling.Dawn Griffard, CEO of the sanctuary, said last month, visitors and staff noticed one of its bald eagles, Murphy, acting peculiar. Murphy, who is kept in an un-roofed enclosure with other males that cannot fly, had made a nest on the ground. Murphy had taken an egg-sized rock and placed it in his nest. He'd sit on it and routinely nudge the rock and turn it, like any mating eagle would.Courtesy: World Bird SanctuaryCourtesy: World Bird SanctuaryPart of those nesting instincts included chasing off other eagles who got too close, so staffers moved Murphy and his rock inside.Last week, the World Bird Sanctuary received one of two eaglets that had been blown out of their nest in Ste. Genevieve. Unfortunately, one of the eaglets did not survive the fall. Staffers...Indy Pass to suspend sales just 10 days after opening, citing concerns of overselling

The Indy Pass will cut off sales at midnight on Monday, just 10 days after the pass opened up sales to the public for the 2023-24 ski season, in an effort to fulfill a promise to passholders. The promise, according to the Indy Pass management team, is “to preserve the independent ski resort experience.”The Indy Pass is a collective ski pass that allows skiers and snowboarders two days at more than 100 different ski areas in the United States, Canada and Japan. It launched five years ago and has seen steady growth in membership in recent years.“The Indy Ski Pass has done a remarkable job promoting the independent and authentic snowsports experience, but we are also responsible for preserving those experiences,” Erik Mogensen wrote. He’s the owner of Entabeni, the company that bought Indy Pass last month. “We will never put promotion ahead of preservation. Because of that, Indy Pass will limit pass sales for the coming season, offering our current passholders an opportunity to re...How Colorado Avalanche overcame schedule of back-to-backs stacked against them

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Avalanche are flourishing in the schedule they once fumed at.Six months ago, the grim reality of the Avs’ Stanley Cup title defense started to set in. They realized they were dealt a grueling hand with five early back-to-backs. Cale Makar called it “ridiculous.” His teammates agreed.Nine of Colorado’s 13 scheduled back-to-backs were against teams with a day of rest. But only four times would a rested Avalanche get to face an opponent that played the previous day.The Avs turned their frustration into fuel, somehow. With one (unscheduled) back-to-back remaining to end the regular season, the defending champs are 9-2-1 in the second game of a back-to-back, an NHL-best record to stick it to the schedule-makers. Colorado hasn’t lost in regulation on 24 hours’ rest since October. The latest unlikely example was Sunday in Anaheim, where the Avs scored twice in the last 10 minutes to force overtime and defeat the Ducks 5-4.Nathan...Latest news
