ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Emails from St. Louis County viewers prompted FOX 2 to investigate home assessments. One viewer in particular wanted to know why the property tax assessment had gone up for so many homes in the county, but the assessment for St. Louis County Executive Sam Page went down.We went to the St. Louis County Assessor’s Office and met with spokesperson Sarah Siegel. We asked if the county executive received a special deal in the valuation of his property.“Absolutely not. Dr. Page’s house was valued by our office exactly the same way that we valued every other house in St. Louis County, which is about 380,000 houses,” Siegel said. “We don’t value based on who the owner is or even based on any other factors about the owner.” Metro East rapper Mudd Bughatti killed in Stan Musial Bridge shooting According to Siegel, approximately 97% of homes in the county received a higher property value, and just 2.5% of properties had small valuations.County Executive Page shares a ...Contact 2: Trouble in Toyland 2023 report

ST. LOUIS – The Illinois Public Interest Research Group released its 38th annual Trouble in Toyland report on Monday. It gives parents and gift givers an idea of how specific smart toys work, as well as tips and questions to ask before buying toys with technology that can collect information about young children.“There are multiple reviews on Amazon with parents saying they opened this up, took it out of the box, and literally strangers started talking to their children on it,” Abe Scarr, director of the Illinois Public Interest Research Group, said. But Scarr says just because a toy has a camera or microphone doesn’t make it unsafe.“It’s about understanding how it works and whether it’s secure, and we think this is an example of a toy that does feature a camera,” he said. “It is a smart toy, but also is relatively safe.” Close Thanks for signing up! BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Belleville City Council approved a new bill to remove parking meters downtown."It is less confusing for people. The meters we've had here in Belleville are quite old. They're getting in disrepair,” David Schoenborn, owner of the Lincoln Theatre, said. “Some of them are even in dangerous conditions because they are falling off or have sharp edges.”Schoenborn said the parking meters cause a lot of confusion for visitors. That’s because you'll find free parking lots across the street from some meters. Missouri soldier awarded medal for saving drowning family Schoenborn said removing the remaining meters gives visitors consistency and eliminates the need for repairs. He had this advice for people visiting downtown Belleville."There's lots of free parking. The parking is just behind all of the buildings mostly and now it's going to be the streets, and all of the buildings will be more accessible to everyone, which I think is a good thing," he said. The city expect...Predators score twice in final minute to stun Avalanche in “heartbreaking” fashion
