NEW YORK (AP) — This was what so many folks figured Coco Gauff would do at some point. Didn't matter how young she was. Didn't matter whether there were setbacks along the way. Those outsized expectations did not make the task of becoming a Grand Slam champion as a teenager any easier — especially when that chorus was accompanied by voices of others who doubted her.She did it, though. At age 19. At the U.S. Open, where she used to come as a kid with her parents to watch her idols, Serena and Venus Williams, compete.Gauff set aside a so-so start and surged to her first major championship by coming back to defeat Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the U.S. Open final on Saturday to the delight of a raucous crowd that was loud from start to finish. When it was over, when she had shed tears of joy, when she had hugged Mom and Dad as they cried, too, Gauff first thanked them, and her grandparents, and her brothers, one of whom failed to answer a FaceTime call f...Storms possible Saturday evening, wetter week to follow

AUSTIN (Nexstar) — The impeachment trial for suspended Attorney General Ken Paxton is underway at the Texas State Capitol, beginning Tuesday morning despite Paxton's requests to dismiss all articles of impeachment. As presiding officer of the trial, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick functioned as a judge by kicking off the trial with procedural moves taking up the majority of the morning. Proceedings began with Supreme Court of Texas Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht administering oaths to Patrick and others involved in the process. Senators each took an oath to serve as jurors, except for Paxton's wife, Sen. Angela Paxton, who is barred from voting in the trial. The Texas House adopted 20 articles of impeachment against Paxton. BRIDGETON, Mo. - Hundreds of homes once sat on the grounds of a disc golf course in northwest St. Louis County. The Carrollton subdivision of Bridgeton has been cleared of homes for more than a decade, and in many spots, closer to two or three. Nearly 2,000 homes and businesses were forced out of Bridgeton when St. Louis Lambert International Airport moved forward with plans for a billion-dollar runway. With the subdivision largely abandoned, one of the challenges the City of Bridgeton faces in the present day is how to give it new life. The Carrollton Park Disc Golf Course, located conveniently near businesses and apartments that still stand, offers hope for more to come. BOULDER — A Deion Sanders team just gave up eight sacks and 11 tackles for losses. A Deion Sanders team drew nine penalties for 80 yards. That same Deion Sanders team just won by 22 points. Against Nebraska.Which, the way Coach Prime sees it, must mean that this Deion Sanders team is pretty … darn … good.“A win is a win,” Sanders said after his 22nd-ranked Buffs stomped the hated Huskers, 36-14. “To just think that we played like we played and we won by that margin, that’s a pretty good feeling for any coach. And I think (it’s great) for you all to see what we’re capable of doing.”If Saturday was any indication, CU might be just scratching the surface. The Buffs started painfully slow, struggled to run the ball, shot themselves in several metaphorical feet, managed three touchdowns in six red-zone trips and were stuffed on their only official fourth-down try of the afternoon. And yet for the final 33 minutes of the 72nd meeting betw...Man hospitalized in Buena Park hit-and-run, suspect at large

A hoax bomb threat forced the evacuation of a Los Altos Hills synagogue on Friday night, according to an email communication sent to congregants from the temple’s leadership.Authorities say a bomb threat against Congregation Beth Am on Arastradero Road was called into the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement contacted the synagogue, which evacuated its entire campus shortly after Shabbat services had concluded. Among the evacuees was Congresswoman Anna Eshoo and Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of the nonprofit J Street.“While the Sheriff’s Office suspected the call was a hoax, of course they had no choice but to treat it as a credible threat,” the temple’s communication states. “This resulted in their quick dispatch of officers to our campus.” The synagogue said other temples around the state and country have also been the victim of so-called “swatting,” which is when a fake crime is reported to police in an attempt to ...Latest news
