3M has agreed to pay more than $6.5 million to resolve charges that it violated the books and records and internal controls provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Securities and Exchange Commission said Friday.The SEC order found that employees of a 3M subsidiary based in China arranged for Chinese government officials employed by state-owned health care facilities to attend overseas conferences, educational events, and health care facility visits, presumably as part of the Chinese subsidiary’s marketing efforts. However, the arrangements were often a pretext to provide the officials with overseas travel to induce them to purchase 3M products.According to the order, from at least 2014 to 2017 3M’s Chinese subsidiary provided Chinese government officials with overseas travel that included guided tours, shopping visits, day trips to nearby sights, and other leisure activities. SAN DIEGO (AP) — A military jet crashed near a San Diego base and a search-and-rescue operation was underway, the U.S. Marine Corps said in a statement early Friday.The F/A-18 went down at 11:54 p.m. Thursday in the vicinity of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, a base press release said.“The crash site is on government property east of the air station and there are no indications of damage to property on the ground,” the statement said. Miramar is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of downtown San Diego.The aircraft was not part of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing headquartered at Miramar but was operating out of the air station, the statement said.The F/A-18 is a multirole combat aircraft flown by the Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy and several other nations.Marine Capt. DENVER (KDVR) — Deputies in Summit County are working to locate a man who is wanted for indecent exposure in Silverthorne.The Summit County Sheriff's Office received three reports of a man committing lewd acts near the shoreline of Giberson Bay and the Heaton Bay Campground. Two men from Broward County have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a million-dollar fraud scheme against Uber. According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Roy Blackwood and 21-year-old Trayon Morgan were arrested on charges of organized scheme to defraud and grand theft. The arrests came after an eight-month investigation by BSO’s Strategic Investigations Division.According to officials, in January 2022, Blackwood and Morgan allegedly orchestrated a sophisticated scam that exploited Uber’s system. The duo reportedly created fake accounts with phony and stolen identities, using the Uber Eats app. Morgan played the roles of both customer and courier, placing grocery orders under fake accounts, and then accepting the orders himself. A 53-year-old man from Kendall was arrested on Friday after being pulled over for speeding on U.S. 1 in a stolen vehicle. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Scott Campbell faces charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle, providing false information to law enforcement, using a counterfeit driver’s license, driving with a suspended license and altering a vehicle’s identification number. He was also cited for various traffic violations.Campbell’s arrest occurred around 2 a.m. near Mile Marker 107 when the tag on the Toyota pickup truck he was driving didn’t match the vehicle. After providing a false driver’s license, it was discovered that the truck’s VIN numbers had been tampered with. Further investigation revealed the truck had been reported stolen in Massachusetts.
