COLORADO SPRINGS — As the lights still shone down on Weidner Field, nearly three hours after the start of the Class 5A boys soccer state championship on Saturday night, Broomfield head coach Zach Hindman tearfully embraced his predecessor in the first row of the stands.Jim Davidson, who coached the Eagles for decades before retiring last year, owned all eight of the school’s state championships.Until now.The bright lights only served to further illuminate Hindman, junior goalkeeper Evan Kulstad and senior Marcus Von, who helped propel the Eagles to victory over the Angels. After a 1-1 score and two overtimes sent the contest into penalties, Broomfield made all four of the penalty kicks they were afforded after Kulstad stopped Denver East on two shots. The Eagles didn’t need to take a fifth.“It’s just euphoric. I feel so happy for the boys,” Hindman said. “We stood on the shoulders of giants and I think the guys dug in and decided that they were going to embrace that. BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Jayden Daniels accounted for 606 total yards and five touchdowns and became the first quarterback in FBS history to have at least 350 yards passing and 200 yards rushing in a game as No. 18 LSU defeated Florida 52-35 on Saturday night.Daniels continued to make his case for the Heisman Trophy, leading the Tigers (7-3, 5-2 SEC) to touchdowns on five consecutive second-half possessions, completing 17 of 26 passes for 372 yards and three touchdowns, and running 12 times for 234 yards and two touchdowns. “If (Daniels) didn’t win (the Heisman Trophy) tonight he has got to be the leading candidate,” LSU head coach Brian Kelly said. “Unless the Heisman is just about popularity. If you want to be the most popular then fine, but he is the best player in college football.“He did something tonight that no one has ever done. If that doesn’t make you the leading candidate, then maybe the Heisman isn’t really for the best player.”In concussion protocol throughout the week l...76ers guard Kelly Oubre Jr. hit by vehicle in Philly, to miss ‘significant’ time

SAN FRANCSICO (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers stayed poised when things turned testy, and that showed J.B. Bickerstaff plenty about his team at this early stage.Donovan Mitchell got the best of Golden State and Draymond Green, finishing with 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals on a night Green was ejected, and the Cavs beat the Warriors 118-110 on Saturday. Green pushed Mitchell with his shoulder and sent him out of bounds as Cleveland’s Caris LeVert drove for a layup. Then, as Green brought the ball across midcourt moments later, Mitchell chased him down and instigated a heated interaction. “I think that was a little bit of a dirty play so Donovan retaliated,” Cavs forward Evan Mobley said.Officials went to replay review and that’s how they determined Green’s infraction, calling Mitchell for a personal foul.“I didn’t know that was actually possible that you could get tech’ed up for a previous play,” Warriors big man Kevon Looney said.Bickerstaff ...Schenn, Buchnevich score 3 goals each as Blues beat Avalanche 8-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — No. 24 North Carolina stopped Duke’s 2-point conversion attempt to tie the game in the second overtime, sending the Tar Heels to a 47-45 win against the rival Blue Devils in a thriller Saturday night.Duke’s Grayson Loftis couldn’t connect with Jalon Calhoun in the back of the end zone, capping a game that had seen the teams combine for 39 fourth-quarter points before pushing into extra periods that ended with UNC fans running onto the field to celebrate in their home finale.Star quarterback Drake Maye provided the winning margin for the Tar Heels (8-2, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), running around the right side and spinning through hits near the goal line to extend the ball for a 5-yard keeper. Then he made a play on the fly for the conversion, breaking off a keeper attempt as Duke’s defense converged and flipping the ball ahead to John Copenhaver in the end zone for the 47-39 lead.
