Where am I going to get my Florentine cannoli fix?” he said. The movie is about two crooks who go on the run with their therapist after a bank robbery gone wrong. LOWELL — The preseason favorite to win the Div. 4 girls title left little doubt it was a deserving champion on Sunday at the Tsongas Center. The Cathedral Panthers simply overwhelmed No. 3 Wahconah as senior Sara Thompson led four players in double figures while Cathedral’s defense stifled the high-scoring Warriors. It all added up to a 75-53 win and the Panthers fourth title in the last seven years.“These girls have a piece of history now with a state championship,” Cathedral coach Clinton Lassiter said. “I told them to leave everything they had on the floor and they did.”Wahconah’s Grace Wigington actually lead all scorers with 23 points but the Panthers’ (20-3) depth gave the Warriors fits almost from the opening tip.The Warriors led only once at 2-0 as Cathedral turned the game into a runaway by halftime thanks to torrid shooting from behind the arc. The Panthers knocked down nine three pointers in the first half, four of them coming from Thompson.Hijjah Allen-Paisley (13 p...

QUINCY – As the state crowned new high school hoops champions this weekend, it was the perfect time to fire up the 46th season of the Boston Amateur Basketball Club. The BABC kickoff showcase at the Hale Family YMCA was a three-game sweep that featured BABC 11th graders taking on the NJCAA Region 21 All-Stars and the MIAA All-Seniors in a doubleheader, along with 10th graders taking on MIAA underclassmen. In the opener, BABC 11th graders jumped to a 20-8 lead en route to a 100-79 victory as the team never trailed despite only six available players able to suit up.A 59-33 halftime lead quickly evaporated as the NJCAA squad’s Tony Palavra (Quincy College) hit four of his five three-pointers. The Quincy Granite sophomore trio of Palavra, Derek Williams, and Tyler Victor cut the lead to 12 midway through the second half. But long-time BABC leader and head coach Leo Papile calmed the waters.“The 40-minute game had an effect,” said Papile. “We were happy with our effort and execution, ...

(Springfield) had a big size advantage. … we haven’t had a problem getting stops and getting people to miss shots all season long. South Boston’s St. Patrick’s day breakfast serves up barbs for the departed

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 20:38:21 GMT

Potatoes weren’t the only things roasted for breakfast in South Boston Sunday, when the state’s senior U.S. senator used her time at the microphone to tell everyone in an overcrowded room exactly what she thought about spending the morning with them.“Daylight savings was last weekend, we lost an hour; now we’re about to lose the next three hours,” U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren cracked during state Sen. Nick Collins’ St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast in Boston. This year’s irreverent breakfast, an annual tradition which brings together many of the state’s elected officials for hours of ribbing over pastries and eggs, was less a roast of those present than it was an opportunity for the politicians that remain in the state to make fun of those who have left for, shall we say, “greener pastures.”“Everyone’s favorite punching bag, Charlie Baker, isn’t here. What jokes are even worth saying anymore without him being here?” state Senate Pres. Karen Spilka said. “I...
