Starling Marte seems to be trending in the right direction when it comes to the migraine headaches that landed him on the 10-day injured list last week. He has gone three days without a migraine and was able to do some baserunning work on the field at Yankee Stadium before the start of Tuesday’s Subway Series game against the Yankees. The right fielder will be eligible to come off the injured list Thursday, but the Mets aren’t yet ready to say they’ll activate him on that date.“We’re not ready to make that commitment yet,” manager Buck Showalter said Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. “He’s had a good three days. He needed it.”The Mets have sent Marte to specialists to try to figure out why the migraines were occurring so close together. The baserunning is a good sign but the team is still waiting to see how he responds to some baseball activities.“We’re not there yet. We’ll see how tomorrow goes,” Showalter said. ...Kowalski’s employees in Eagan, west metro announce three-day strike

As triple digit heat blankets parts of Southern California, some residents in a Riverside neighborhood have been without power since last night and are hoping service will be restored soon. For resident Shane Savage, one small fan is single handedly keeping his family’s home relatively cool in the heatwave. “We have an inverter in the car that’s here and we plugged that into the cigarette lighter and that’s at least powering the fan that we have there,” Savage told KTLA. The Riverside homeowner said he’s had to get creative after his power unexpectedly went out last night around 8 p.m., right after he and his wife had just returned home from Costco with a full load of groceries. “We didn’t get anything from Edison until later in the evening,” he explained. “We’ve gotten updates every so many hours that it’ll be up and running in two more hours, two more hours, two more hours.” Some 20 hours later and the power had yet to be restored, making it even more ...Firefighter injured battling brush fire in Angeles National Forest

The start of the Bay Bridge series against the A’s on Tuesday marked their 12th game in 12 days since the All-Star break, traversing five cities on both coasts.“It’s nice to be home,” manager Gabe Kapler said, smiling, from the third-base dugout.Back at last from the hot and humid East Coast, Kapler managed to find time for a bicycle ride and to enjoy the temperate San Francisco summer weather. In an escalation of the tension between labor and business allegiances on the San Jose City Council, two progressive councilmembers on Tuesday said they intend to introduce a resolution that will strengthen free speech protections for the city’s elected officials.Councilmembers Omar Torres and Peter Ortiz said the resolution is a response to what they called politically motivated and racist attacks by organizations associated with the business community — what they see as an effort to muzzle their support for local unionization efforts. But it goes deeper than that. The City Council has been tussling for months with divisive issues, including housing and homelessness, that have raised the stakes — and the tempers — of councilmembers, constituents and their communities. The proposed resolution, for which they provided no details, comes just a week after the city attorney in Los Angeles warned elected officials that getting involved in labor disputes could lead to coun...‘Every alarm going off,’ former SJSU swimmer testifies in trial against sports trainer
