COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina agency tasked with ensuring occupational safety is accused of racial discrimination by failing to routinely inspect disproportionately Black workplaces in a federal complaint backed by a new union that seeks to boost labor organizing across the South. The civil rights complaint filed Tuesday marks an escalation of the efforts by the Union of Southern Service Workers, an outgrowth of the Fight for $15 campaign’s southern branch, that launched last fall with pledges to leverage the collective power of retail, fast food and warehouse employees.According to the group’s analysis, the South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration neglects industries staffed predominantly by Black employees compared to fields filled largely by workers of other races. The complaint said the agency conducted zero programmed inspections from 2018 to 2022 of food/beverage and general merchandise retailers — where Black people make up 45.9% and ...Donald Trump’s arraignment day a throwback for news outlets

NEW YORK (AP) — For the country and for Donald Trump, the indictment of a former president represented an unprecedented day. For TV news organizations, it felt like a throwback.Hour after hour on Tuesday, the story occupied the full attention of broadcast and cable news networks. They waited for glimpses of Trump’s face to interpret his expression, followed his motorcade’s movements from the air, speculated on how it must feel to be arrested. The coverage recalled better days for now-struggling cable news outlets, through two presidential campaigns and two impeachment trials, when Trump occupied hours of air time. Consumers eagerly followed along, the way they haven’t for many stories since. For two days this week, Trump’s indictment on 34 counts of falsifying business records, gave outlets the chance to go back in time.“This is the most significant arraignment in the history of arraignments,” Danny Cevallos, a legal analyst for NBC News, said on that network...Osasuna upsets Athletic, reaches Copa final for 2nd time

MADRID (AP) — Osasuna pulled off yet another Copa del Rey upset by eliminating Athletic Bilbao in extra time Tuesday to reach the final for the first time in nearly two decades. Late substitute Pablo Ibáñez scored with a volley from the edge of the area on a breakaway in the 116th minute to secure a 2-1 aggregate win that sent the Pamplona club to the final for the first time since 2005.“I don’t have any words to describe the emotions right now,” said Ibáñez, who was 6 years old when the club last made it to the final. “We suffered like dogs, and to score that goal in the last minute is something that you can’t explain. It’s the best goal of my career and I doubt that I’ll be able to do anything better than that.”Athletic had forced extra time at San Mamés Stadium after winning 1-0 in regulation with a goal by Iñaki Williams in the 33rd. Osasuna had won the first leg 1-0 at home. Osasuna will play the final against either Barcelona or Real Madrid, who meet in the other semifinal at ...Arlington schools to give parents more control over when students use school-issued devices

Arlington Public Schools in Virginia is rolling out a new content filter that will give parents more control over when students use their county-issued devices. At Thursday’s school board meeting, Superintendent Francisco Durán said the new tool, called Lightspeed, would replace Global Protect, which the school system currently uses. Lightspeed will be launched on student devices during this week’s spring break, he said. The change comes as many families voice concerns about the amount of time their students spend in front of screens outside of the school day, Durán said.A slide detailing the features of content filter Lightspeed. NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump turned his head toward photographers as he sat, stone-faced with shoulders rounded, at the defense table in a downtown Manhattan courtroom. “Not guilty,” he said in a firm voice during a historic appearance before a judge Tuesday. Trump became the first U.S. president ever to be charged with a crime. Prosecutors state in a 34-count felony indictment that Trump conspired to illegally influence the 2016 presidential election through hush money payments to two women, including a porn performer, who said they had sexual encounters with him. In addition, charging documents say a payoff went to a doorman who claimed to have a story about an out-of-wedlock child allegedly fathered by Trump. Earlier, Trump struck a defiant pose, raising a clenched fist as he exited Trump Tower for the short ride from midtown to lower Manhattan. He wore a dark blue suit, white shirt and red tie. Television news helicopters followed his motorcade’s route, allowin...Sismo de magnitud 6,6 sacude la costa de Panamá, reporta USGS

Like a lot of new moms, Julie Ertz had emotional conversations with her husband about what her return to work would look like after having a child. Only Ertz’s job as a midfielder for the United States is a bit more unusual. And in her case, returning to work means preparing for a Women’s World Cup. Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz, as an athlete himself, understood the challenges his wife was facing. One conversation in particular stood out. “I was sitting on the couch with my husband and my baby and just — we talked about everything, like having a baby, the process of having a baby, life, wanting to play, but how does it work logistically and making sure my family is there,” she said on Tuesday. “It’s all that. DENVER (KDVR) — A bipartisan group of lawmakers is looking to put limits on wolf reintroduction in Colorado. Wildlife advocates say it could delay the process by six years or more.State legislators introduced the bill last week. It would prohibit wolf reintroduction in Colorado until two conditions are met under federal law: certain wolf management rules are finalized and an environmental impact study is complete. Which Colorado cities have the longest and shortest summers? Gray wolves are listed under the federal Endangered Species Act, but Colorado is in charge of reintroduction in the state. Because of this, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is in the process of designating Colorado's wolves as a "nonessential experimental population," which the bill's authors say would give the state "greater flexibility to manage the wolves" once reintroduced. That rule-making process is expected to be complete by the end of the year. That's also around when wolf reintroduction is scheduled t...Latest news
